SuperCollaboration·Monaco, Grimaldi Forum·3:46
Speaking to around 2,500 BNI directors and members at the Grimaldi Forum, James Taylor shared the idea that landed hardest in the room: the one-person billion-dollar company, and what it means when your next competitor is a tiny team powered by AI.
Filmed at the Grimaldi Forum, Monaco, between James's BNI keynote and a private workshop with BNI national directors.

Before every visit to Monaco, James Taylor keeps the same small ritual: he rubs the knee of the Louis XIV horse statue at a famous Monaco hotel for luck. This time it was ahead of a keynote at the Grimaldi Forum for BNI, the global networking and referral organisation.
James spoke to around 2,500 BNI directors and members on SuperCollaboration, the partnership between humans and AI. Recorded between that keynote and a private breakout workshop with BNI's national directors, this short episode captures the idea that landed hardest in the room, and the question James left the audience with.
Sam Altman has predicted that agentic AI would let a single person, using many AI tools, build a business worth over a billion dollars. It sounds like science fiction until you look for examples, and James points to a recent one: Austrian entrepreneur Peter Steinberger, who he says probably created the world's first one-person billion-dollar company.
The "probably" matters. This is a story still being written, and James tells it as one. What makes it useful on stage isn't the exact valuation. It's what the example does to the room: it makes a prediction that sounded abstract feel close.
"It was really a thought experiment."
James Taylor, MonacoJames didn't share the example because he expects a room of BNI members to go out and build billion-dollar one-person companies. That wasn't the point. The point was to ask a sharper question: how much faster could your business, your chapter or your region grow if AI were doing more of the work?
For an audience of entrepreneurs and business owners, that reframe is what turns a headline into something they can act on. The billion-dollar figure is the hook. The real conversation is about leverage, and what one person or a small team can now achieve with the right tools.
James then shared a second thought experiment, based on one from Anthropic's Dario Amodei. Imagine a competitor appears in your market almost overnight, within a year. It has 100,000 workers. Each one is smarter than any human. They work 10 to 100 times faster, and they can run anything with a digital interface: sales, marketing, finance, operations.
"How would you feel if that competitor came?"
James Taylor, MonacoIt's an uncomfortable question, and that's why it works. It moves AI from something happening somewhere else to something that could show up in your own market, competing for your own customers.
Put the two thought experiments together and you arrive at James's central point. In many industries, the competitor to watch is no longer another large company with a bigger budget. It's a one or two person business using lots of AI, cleverly, to take market share.
"The new competitor isn't another big company. It's a one or two person business."
James Taylor, MonacoFor a networking organisation built on entrepreneurs, that cuts both ways. The same tools that make a tiny competitor dangerous are available to every member in the room. The question is who uses them first, and who uses them well. That is the heart of James's work as an AI keynote speaker: not humans versus AI, but humans and AI working together.
James notes that audiences of entrepreneurs ask sharp questions and keep the conversation going long after the keynote ends, which makes them a pleasure to speak to. They don't just listen to an idea; they test it against their own business.
That's also why a keynote can be the start of the work rather than the end of it. After the main session, James ran a private workshop for BNI national directors from around the world, focused on using AI to accelerate the growth of their regions and chapters. For associations, networking groups and franchise networks, pairing a keynote with a follow-on workshop turns big ideas into a plan.
