General Information about NFT for Meeting Planners and Prospective Clients.

Although they have been out there for several years now, many people still don’t know much about NFTs (“non-fungible tokens”) – an exclusively virtual system used to buy or sell artworks. An NFT is a non-interchangeable unit of data stored on a blockchain, or digital ledger system. While virtual coins or cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin or Ethereum are “fungible” (mutually interchangeable), each non-fungible token is unique. Types of NFT data units can be associated with digital files such as videos, pictures, music, games, or other digital artworks. Ownership of a digital piece of art is what makes NFTs valuable. Even if everybody can view, download, or save the online piece, only one person can own the original, or trade it in the future. As such, trading NFTs can be seen as a form of investment in the blockchain markets, but also as a great way to financially support the work of artists who create NFTs. Perhaps the most obvious benefit of NFTs is market efficiency, since the conversion of a physical asset into a digital one streamlines processes and removes intermediaries. Although controversial, many NFT art pieces have sold for millions of dollars, and various companies, including Netflix, Mercedes Benz, Nike, Coca-Cola, or Samsung have already jumped on the NFT bandwagon.
